Back from Feral!, where I had an excellent time. Did some commissions, and in the next little while I'll be cleaning up the ones I took pictures of to post them on here.
I am very much enjoying the weekly lifedrawing workshops I've been attending, and I hope you guys arn't feeling too swamped by all the nudes. Rest assured I have not switched my favored subject matter, and hope to have more fantasy content up soon.

Made up a commission price-list before heading out into the wilderness, so if anyone wants to hit me up for that feel free!

I hear that the Furnal Equinox coming up has a retro arcade/fighting game theme, so I'll have to try combining my strengths into making some pixel badges. Will be back with examples after I experiment a bit on that.

I also wanted to mention that if anyone is wanting prints of anything, send me a note and I'll enable prints. (fanart excepted, though if a bunch of people are interested I'll look into finding a site that allows fanart prints)

Imagination International Inc, the company behind my favourite marker brand (Copics), sent me a box of art supplies to review. The first part of the review is here and this is the accompanying picture, made with their X-Press It Mask It Sheets, IC Ink Premium black 2, IC Super White ink, both pen nibs, a paintbrush, and water; and done on the X-Press-It Blending Card. I also did an interview for them, which you can find here.

I really pushed myself on this one, including both a background and interesting lighting, and using a watercolour method that's outside my comfort zone. I think it turned out well, but unfortunately I  accidentally saved over the large version of my final picture. I used waifu2x to make it a bit bigger again, and I think it turned out pretty well.

how did you make an animated sprite on your ID? it's adorable the way your little sprite walks.

Well, I used a megaman sprite for the base. Heavily edited. My program of choice is Fireworks, which can handle layers and frames but is a bit iffy with remembering colours since it saves thing as PNG. Other programs work too, just make sure they can handle frame-by-frame animation. Anyway, you make each frame of the animation (onionskinning or otherwise reducing the opacity of the previous frame and doing the next one on a new layer is helpful) and get them all lined up on different frames, then fiddle with the timing. When it's to your satisfaction, export as an animated GIF. Voila! Animation! :D

Thanks! I'm quite fond of it, though it's been quite a few years since I made it. I remember being frustrated that there were no walking sprites in Megaman (I'd started spriting via the Bob and George fandom. Megaman was the way to go), nor had any been made by other pixel artists at the time. Running everywhere was stupid, and the sprites for it were ugly as heck anyway. Scratch poses it had to be. Not my area of expertise, but it was good practice and I'm still happy with the results :)

Thanks! And how are you two doing? Was your drive back okay?

once we got out of the rain, it was manic driving out of the park XD  Mostly fine after that, most people didn't go to the dead dog, so we went home early from that.

glad to see you're doing well ^^

We were lucky enough to leave before the rain really hit. Loopy wanted to leave as early as possible so we didn't even stay for the group photo XD
You, too!
